Unit 10: Mitigate Climate Change Locally

The world is the limit here, but we probably want to keep it local for our students.  We know that there are a multitude of problems with climate change, tell students to focus on a specific problem, one possibly relevant to the state that they live.  Encourage the idea that a few people can influence a few more people and so on, and so on, until you’ll have a larger movement.  Ideas for students can be as basic as more energy efficient light bulbs in their home, sharing stories to educate other on climate change via social media, or walking/biking more instead of using gas powered cars, or writing to politicians to encourage the local, county, state, or federal government to do more to reduce their carbon footprint.

Good video to kick off mitigation of climate change, from Chapter 8 of Our Climate Our Future: https://ourclimateourfuture.org/video/chapter-8/

And here is chapter 9 from the above site: https://ourclimateourfuture.org/video/chapter-9/

“Our climate our future” website has the interesting idea of D.O.T. or Do One Thing to mitigate climate change.  Their video is here. https://ourclimateourfuture.org/video/chapter-10/  Each student can choose to do one thing and then present it to the class.
